Commissioners approve temporary bailiff position and $5,124.55 contingency transfer

The Taylor County Commissioners Court voted to create a temporary bailiff position to allow an outgoing bailiff to overlap with and train a new hire. The court approved transferring $5,124.55 from the county contingency fund to the 40 second District Court to cover the cost.
County staff said the appointment is intended to provide hands-on training for the incoming bailiff before the current bailiff’s retirement. A county finance staff member confirmed contingency funds are available in the general fund to cover the transfer.
Commissioner Bersham moved to create the temporary position and fund the overlap; the motion was seconded by the county judge and passed by voice vote, 5–0.
Staff noted the position will be temporary and paid from contingency; no ongoing budget increase was requested. The court directed payroll and court-administration staff to implement the temporary appointment and process payroll changes as invoices are presented for approval in the county’s bill run.
The motion recorded the transfer amount in open session: $5,124.55. The court did not receive public comment on the item.
