Committee introduces bill to revise board membership pay after adjustments to avoid duplicate compensation

Representative Stephanie Mickelson asked the State Affairs Committee to make RS 32,698 a bill so the committee could schedule a hearing. Mickelson said the draft has been revised after the committee previously considered it, and the recent edits remove individuals who would be paid twice because they already receive compensation from a city council or county commission.

"We had some adjustments that were made on it last week when we tried to bring it forward and we realized that the people that were serving on the board that we added at the end of last week actually were already being paid either through a city council or a county commission so we didn't want them to be paid twice," Mickelson said. She told the committee this is the same bill the committee had approved twice before and asked that RS 32,698 be made a bill "so that we can have a hearing."

Representative Polonka moved to introduce RS 32,698. The motion carried on a voice vote; the chair declared the motion carried. No roll-call votes or public testimony on the bill were recorded in the transcript.
