Cobb County opens bids for three DOT projects; posts bidders and prices

Cobb County procurement staff opened bids on behalf of the Cobb County Board of Commissioners on Thursday, March 27, recording respondents for three Department of Transportation projects and announcing a schedule for public posting of results.
"For today, Thursday, March 27, we have 3 bids that we're opening on behalf of the Cobb County Board of Commissioners," said Daryl McCook, a staff member for Cobb County. The items included a request for qualifications for engineering design services on the Austell–Powder Springs Road Trail, a construction bid for Chastain Road and Busby Drive, and an invitation to bid for tree limb removal and trimming.
The bid opening matters because it identifies potential contractors and establishes baseline prices that county staff will review before recommending awards. Awards and preliminary results will be posted on the county procurement portal once recommendations are prepared and approved.
For the Austell–Powder Springs Road Trail request for qualifications (RFQ), filed as B2439, McCook read the names of firms that submitted qualifications. Firms listed were BCC Engineering LLC (doing business as Heath & Lineback), EFK Moen, Moffett and Nichole, Prime Engineering Inc., and RK Shaw & Associates Inc. As an RFQ, proposers were listed without dollar amounts.
For the Chastain Road and Busby Drive construction invitation to bid (ITB), filed as B2445, bid bonds were required and McCook announced both bidders and bid totals. The county recorded these offers:
- C.W. Matthews Contracting Co.: $705,730.00 - Backbone Infrastructure LLC: $791,557.00 - Vertical Earth Inc.: $832,308.02 - Baldwin Pave & Company, Inc.: $894,716.88
The third item, recorded as ITB 256894 for tree limb removal and trimming, included multiple vendors whose prices were not read aloud. Firms listed were Atlanta Premier Tree Solutions LLC; C and M Tree Service LLC; 1 2 3; Premier Tree and Shrub Care LLC; The M. Mitchell Group LLC; TriScapes LLC; and WorldScapes LLC.
McCook closed the session by reminding attendees that preliminary bid results and awarded contracts (once approved) are available through the county’s procurement portal and noted the next regular bid opening is scheduled for April 10. No awards were made at the opening; staff will review the submissions and return recommendations to the board or the county’s award process as required by procurement rules.
