Plano Public Library hatches chicks in second annual Spark Space program

Steve Stoler, Plano’s media relations director, said the Plano Public Library is running its second annual “egg to chick” Spark Space in partnership with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service.
The program places fertilized eggs in an incubator so patrons can watch the 21-day incubation and hatching process. "The eggs came from a local egg farmer and hatched 21 days later," Stoler said. The chicks will remain in the Spark Space through March 21 and will then return to the farm where the eggs were laid.
Library staff said the exhibit is intended to teach patrons about the chicken life cycle and “understand where their food comes from,” according to Stoler. The city-characterized Spark Space pairs the library with the university extension service for hands-on, short-term learning exhibits.
The exhibit is described as a temporary educational display; no policy actions or funding changes were announced.
