Nursing center reports 48 census, HVAC work complete; committee flags revenue concerns

The committee received an update on the county nursing center noting an active census of 48 residents, completion of recent HVAC work and ongoing changes to billing processes.

Representatives said the nursing center’s new billing vendor expects to deliver reports next month; staff said those reports should make the center’s revenue and collection activity clearer. Committee members expressed concern about the facility’s revenue outlook, noting that the original 2025 budget assumed a higher census and a different payer mix (including private-pay residents) than currently exists. One committee member told colleagues there is effectively only one private-pay resident at present, and that the absence of private-pay admissions for nearly a year is affecting earnings.

Finance connection: Committee members and finance staff discussed that some reimbursements — for example, targeted case management (TCM) payments referenced during the meeting — flow through the general fund and therefore may not appear on the nursing center’s internal reports until ledger transfers are made. Staff said an anticipated TCM payment had been issued that day but that its effect would show up in general-fund accounting rather than directly on nursing center statements.

Operations: The committee also reported completion of HVAC work and said administration will include the nursing center’s revenue-and-expense report as a linked item on future agendas so members can review it directly. The county indicated it will continue monitoring census, payer mix and billing results and share updated financial reports at upcoming meetings.
