Severance OKs intergovernmental agreement with Longmont for police training facility use
Summary

The Severance Town Council on Sept. 9 approved an intergovernmental agreement allowing the Severance Police Department to use the City of Longmont’s training facility.
Police Chief Chavez explained that Severance officers normally use Ames Community College, the Northern Colorado Law Enforcement Training Center or the department facility for training; Longmont’s facility provides a nearby contingency location when those sites are unavailable. Chavez said the arrangement stems from a working relationship with Longmont and that the facilities are reasonably near Severance.
Chief Chavez said the agreement will help the department maintain training continuity for defensive tactics, risk‑control training and other exercises. Town Manager Nick Wharton confirmed there were no budget concerns for current use and that future budgeting for routine use could be addressed in later budgets if necessary.
Action: Council approved Resolution 2025‑37‑R authorizing the town manager to enter the IGA with the City of Longmont.
Ending: The IGA gives the police department an additional local training option and does not create immediate budget impacts; chief and staff will manage scheduling and any cost implications moving forward.
