Community Development reports July permit activity; several large projects continue

Community Development staff summarized July 2025 permit and project activity, reporting 88 building permits and an estimated $6.5 million in construction value for the month. Greg Anderson, director of community development, said July included 11 new multifamily units and six single-family unit permits. Staff completed 161 occupancy inspections (including reinspections), 641 building inspections and administered 683 code-enforcement actions with an average abatement time of about 15.6 days. Notable projects under review or construction include: - HSHS medical office building and surgery treatment center: A $50 million expansion is under construction with anticipated completion in 2027; staff has also received construction plans for an emergency-department addition (about 15,500 square feet), an 8,500-square-foot dietary department addition and conversion of existing space into 32 inpatient rooms. - Bethel Grove residential subdivision: A 49.10-acre subdivision with 53 single-family homes submitted construction plans and is under plan review. - Patty Homes patio homes (first edition): Preliminary plans reviewed; the first edition includes 48 units and is part of an earlier mixed-use approval. - Augusta Greens phase 3: Under construction-plan review for 39 single-family homes. - Home2Suites (Long Regency Park): Site work underway; construction continues in line with development plans. - U-Haul Moving and Storage Center (1404 W. Highway 50): Scheduled for the planning commission meeting seeking a planned-use permit to redevelop the former RP Lumber site into retail/self-storage and truck/trailer rentals. Anderson also noted a recently updated "Build it Here" story map on the city's website that tracks development phases and locations. Committee members asked clarifying questions and were referred to plan-review timelines; no committee votes were required for the update.
