Council authorizes $336,985 engineering contract for I-20 corridor assessment

The Weatherford City Council authorized the city manager to execute a professional services contract with Graham Associates Incorporated for civil engineering and survey services to support planning along the I-20 corridor.

The contract amount presented to council was "an amount not to exceed $336,985 for a total fiscal year expenditure amount of $460,190," Assistant City Manager Chad Marvot told the council when introducing the item. Marvot described the scope as a comprehensive assessment of infrastructure needs for an area bounded generally along I-20 between Quincy Lane and Old Brock Road, including detailed survey and entitlement work to prepare a preliminary plat for city-owned property.

Councilmember Luke Williams made the motion to approve the contract; Councilmember Matt Tiscus seconded. The council voted to approve the item by touchscreen vote; no roll-call tally was read aloud on the record.

Marvot said the consultant will look beyond the immediate city-owned parcel to ensure infrastructure planning accounts for surrounding properties and anticipated growth along the southern portion of the interstate corridor. "This holistic look ensures not only that we're informed of the infrastructure required for development in the area, but that we can safeguard surrounding properties for that growth as well," Marvot said.

The contract authorization directs staff to proceed with Graham Associates' civil engineering and surveying work and to use the services to prepare planning materials, including a preliminary plat for city-owned land.
