District 300 reports summer construction progress, advances master facility planning

District 300 facilities staff told the board operations committee on Tuesday that multiple summer construction and renovation projects are complete or substantially complete and that the district is continuing community engagement on a master facility plan.
The presentation listed recently completed work at several schools: HVAC phase 3 and track resurfacing at Dundee Middle School, theater renovations and lighting at Hampshire High School, new flooring at Hampshire Elementary and Newbert, completed tennis courts at Crown, corridor tile at Westfield and other classroom and media center updates across the district. Facilities staff thanked partners Leggett and Dewberry and systems contractor LAMP for their summer work and said some items remain delayed due to manufacturing lead times (for example, back-ordered speakers and stair treads).
Why it matters: the facilities update ties directly to the district’s FY26 capital outlay and master facility planning. Administration said the district listed 23 capital maintenance projects with a total roughly estimated at $32 million and that the board’s capital maintenance spending supports student safety, building modernization and the broader master facility planning effort.
Master facility planning and community engagement Facilities staff described an updated “good, better, best” framework for refining project scope and said community engagement work with consultant Discovery Works is continuing. Staff said the board’s cabinet and the district’s architects and construction managers are meeting to narrow scopes and costs, with more detailed options to be presented to the board in coming meetings.
Specific steps and recent operational outcomes - At Dundee Middle School (DMS): HVAC renovations (phase 3) reported complete pending final balancing and testing; the track renovation was reported stripe-ready and fencing and guardrails installed. - Theater renovations at Hampshire High School were substantially complete; only a small number of speakers are back-ordered but not blocking use. - Flooring and kitchen resin work were completed at Hampshire Elementary and Newbert. - Westfield corridors were retiled and stair treads remain on a short manufacturing lead time; media centers and furniture installations were completed at multiple schools.
Staff said a new traffic pattern and signage piloted at DMS helped clear arrival queues earlier than last year and that the district will continue refining dismissal and arrival procedures in coordination with the West Dundee Police Department, the school resource officer and building leadership.
No formal board action was recorded in the facilities update agenda item; staff said detailed photo summaries of summer work will be presented to the board at a future meeting and that master facility plan options will be refined through ongoing community input.
