City engineering reported that Main Street drainage work connected an outfall and the street closure this summer allowed work needed for school access; final overlay paving of the area is planned for February–March next year.
The full story
Eduardo, a city staff member, updated the McAllen City Commission on July 28 that the Main and Jay drainage project completed a key outfall connection and that trench paving needed for school access has been finished. Staff said Main Street was closed for three to four weeks during the summer to complete the work and that the closure was scheduled to avoid school traffic. Eduardo said the project team completed the drain outfall, is finishing the last 500 feet of pipe and trench work off Eleventh Street, and that a final surface overlay with color is planned during the February–March paving season next year after a new contract is in place. Commissioners asked about schedule and resident notifications; staff said they held public meetings to inform residents and had adjusted the timeline to prioritize school access before classes resumed. The work is presented as an informational update; no formal vote was taken.
