During the council’s monthly reports segment, the mayor and interim town manager and councilors reviewed several operational items: budget planning with a consultant, a major equipment failure at the collection center, plans to recruit a code-enforcement officer, and upcoming community events and fundraisers.
Mayor Urban and staff said the town will work with the James Vincent Group as a finance consultant to finalize department budgets; the consultant will visit departments in person and hold Zoom meetings before budget presentation to the council. Staff noted an urgent operational item: a collection center roll-off semi truck suffered a fatal engine failure and the town received one bid for a major repair; the town described the equipment as essential and the repair as “pretty costly.” The interim town manager said, “We have a costly repair on our collection center roll off semi trucks, a major fatal it's a fatal, engine failure. So we do have a pretty costly repair on that one. We received one bid on that one now.”
The manager and council also discussed federal CDBG distribution methods; staff said NACOG is sending a survey on distribution options and the town is considering a previous option that spreads funding across multiple years. Personnel matters included completion of director evaluations (all but one completed at the time of the report) and upcoming interviews for the code enforcement position; staff said complaints have been “coming in pretty feverishly.” Councilors urged businesses and residents to keep weeds and trash screened and maintained.
Council members also reported events and community activity: trail maintenance work continuing with contractor 'Trax'/'tracks' and a need for updated maps, museum hours, school start dates, the White Mountain Humane Society fundraiser on Aug. 23, a community center luau fundraiser on July 26, National Night Out on Aug. 8, and other local gatherings. Council members encouraged participation and donations for those events.
No formal actions were taken in this reports section; items were presented for information and staff-directed follow-up where noted.
