Commissioners adopt ordinance raising election‑day pay structure for poll workers

The Adams County Board of Commissioners adopted ordinance 2025‑11 revising compensation for election poll workers, a change county election officials said will simplify payroll and eliminate separate meal‑allowance claims.

Shelley, county clerk, presented the proposal and told the board that other counties fold a $15 meal allowance into the worker’s pay rate to reduce the number of separate claim sheets. The ordinance changes include new per‑election flat payments and revisions for training, early‑voting and equipment workers.

The ordinance text presented at the meeting set the revised pay as follows: inspectors shall receive $265 per election; judges and clerks $206 per election; alternates $25 per training; absentee and early‑voting workers $11.23 per hour (40‑hour week max); and voting‑equipment workers $50 per day. The clerk and her election board approved the change before bringing it to the commissioners. The board voted to adopt the ordinance at the meeting and asked staff to circulate copies to relevant offices.

Clerk Shelley said the change is designed to reduce administrative work for the clerk’s office and to avoid public misunderstandings about the prior separate meal allowance reporting.

The ordinance will be implemented for upcoming elections and the clerk’s office will notify poll workers of the new pay structure.
