Judge Grant grants six-month deferred finding after explaining program terms

Lake Forest Park Municipal Court Judge Grant accepted a six-month deferred finding for defendant Susan Little during the Aug. 11 virtual infraction calendar after explaining program rules and eligibility.
Judge Grant told Little that Lake Forest Park’s deferred-finding option lasts six months, not a year, and that eligibility is limited to once every seven years. The judge said the court requires an administrative fee of $175 and that the defendant must have no moving-traffic infractions during the six-month period for the ticket to be dismissed at the end of the deferral.
Little said she sought a deferred finding for a contested speeding ticket. Judge Grant confirmed the radar recorded the vehicle at 18 mph over the posted limit and explained how the radar equipment registers speeds even if an officer is traveling in the opposite direction. After Little confirmed she understood the conditions, the judge entered the deferred finding. The judge told Little she would receive the signed agreement and payment instructions in the mail and that she could apply for a time-payment plan if she could not pay within 30 days.
The court also explained that the administrative fee covers monitoring of the defendant’s compliance during the deferral period. If Little complies with the no-moving-violations condition and pays the administrative fee, the original speeding ticket will be dismissed after the six-month period. If she fails to comply, the ticket will be adjudicated and the penalty imposed in addition to the unpaid fee.
Judge Grant recorded the deferred finding on the Aug. 11 virtual docket and directed the clerk to mail the agreement and payment instructions to the address on file.
