County reports completed state-mandated audit; two State Election Board challenges dismissed

Elections staff reported on Aug. 5 that the state risk-limiting audit required by Georgia law was conducted and that audit results balanced to the results loaded into the county’s election management system. The state-mandated audit selection included absentee-by-mail batch 2 and Election Day Precinct 12. The audit began at 9 a.m. on July 23 and concluded the same morning; staff reported that the audited totals matched the election-night uploads. Kim Slaughter and the elections office also summarized recent proceedings before the State Election Board on July 29. Staff attorney Stephanie Wyndham attended the hearings; the board reported that SEB case 2022-026 was dismissed by a unanimous vote, and case 2022-165 was dismissed by a 3-1 vote with the chair exercising his right to vote. A board member publicly thanked Wyndham for her representation during the hearings. No further action was taken by the local board regarding those state cases; results and dismissals were presented to inform the board and public. Separately, the elections director said routine post-election audits and administrative reconciliation will continue as part of standard procedures.
