Resident says building access and fire-code issues remain unresolved; asks board to intervene

Imran Shah, who identified himself as living at 8104 Lincoln Avenue, addressed the board Aug. 4 with a series of safety and access complaints he said have caused “serious and continued hardship” for his family.
Shah said the building’s only exit fails to meet basic fire-code protections, citing unprotected openings and an unverified fire rating for a stairwell. He said the property’s primary access from Lincoln Avenue was eliminated during construction of a playground project moved forward without proper permits or Illinois Department of Transportation approval, which he said obstructs deliveries and prevents emergency-vehicle access through the alley.
Shah said he had sought answers since September 2024 and described follow-up commitments from the fire chief and village manager as unfulfilled. He said alleged landlord harassment escalated to the point he sought a restraining order. Shah asked the board to “bring accountability” and help ensure the village protects its residents.
Board members did not take formal action in response to Shah’s remarks during the meeting; the comments were recorded as public comment. Shah asked that trustees step in to resolve outstanding permitting, access and code-enforcement issues affecting his property.
