Council approves $85,000 from Clinton Public Library rainy‑day fund to replace windows

The Vermillion County Council on June 9 approved an $85,000 additional appropriation requested by the Clinton Public Library to replace windows and do related exterior wood wrapping.

Library representative Becky told the council the contractor's estimate for replacing all remaining windows is about $77,000 and the requested $85,000 includes a 10% contingency for unexpected expenses. She said the library's rainy‑day fund balance was shown in the packet as $339,639, giving the library ample funds to cover the work. Becky also said the library collected three quotes and chose a contractor offering a lifetime warranty and included woodwork wrapping; 21 of the library's 106 windows have already been completed.

Council members asked about timing and vendor selection. The library said work is planned to begin in the fall to avoid the summer reading program. Councilman Weir moved to approve the appropriation; Mr. Costello seconded. The motion passed by voice vote.

The council's approval is procedural: the library is a township library and, under Indiana law as stated at the meeting, additional appropriations by libraries must be approved by the fiscal body with jurisdiction over the library. The library will provide required documentation to the auditor for file and signature.
