Marymount Park work moving forward; open space to reopen August 1, playground remains last phase

Parks staff reported to the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board on July 22 that progress is being made at Marymount Park following a June 17 community meeting. The board learned the open space graded on June 22 will have fencing removed on Aug. 1 and that minor landscaping will follow to allow turf to establish. Staff said it is working with Vandy’s Construction on the pavilion and restroom building; those elements should move forward within the next month once details are finalized. PlayMore, a playground vendor the city has used previously, is preparing final plans for the new playground, which staff described as the last piece of the project sequence. A board member asked whether prior contamination of the debris staging area (used during hurricanes Saline and Milton) had been resolved. Mike said the engineering department addressed those concerns before grading and resodding and that contamination is no longer an issue. Discussion vs. decision: This item was a staff update. No vote was taken; the board and staff agreed to add Marymount Park to future project reports so the board can receive regular status updates.
