Board approves architect agreement for Ripley Connected Community YMCA build-out

The Board of Mayor and Aldermen approved an architect and engineering agreement with TLM for the Ripley Connected Community YMCA build-out inside unused space at the University of Tennessee at Martin Ripley Center. Mayor Fitzhugh and board members discussed that the project will use broadband funds to improve connectivity at the UT Martin Ripley Center and to convert unused interior space for childcare operated by the YMCA. A speaker said there is about $22,000,000 associated with broader work (presented as grant/fund context during discussion). The contract was brought forward after Dr. Sinkley of UT Martin, YMCA representatives and the Mid-South Development District raised the project. The board voted on the agreement; roll call recorded Alderman Austin, Frazier, Lam and Healy and Mayor Fitzhugh in favor and Alderman Chipman opposed. The motion passed.
