Courthouse renovation nears completion; exterior door replacement tabled after foundation concern

County facilities staff told the Wichita County Commissioners Court on July 22 that renovation work at the courthouse annex is nearly finished and that the parking-lot and access improvements will improve functionality and ADA access.

Contractors have completed most flooring and expect tile work and inspections to finish in about two weeks, with furniture delivery and staff moves scheduled between Hotter Hill and Labor Day, the county reported.

Separately, commissioners tabled consideration of quotes to replace exterior doors on the east and west sides of the courthouse after a contractor identified a structural problem beneath the west doorway. Staff said the concrete slab beneath the west entrance has a 5/8-inch hump and a cracked slab around the threshold; that foundation issue must be addressed before permanent double doors or thresholds are installed.
