Jackson County selects Waste Pro for countywide garbage collection after commission ranking

The Jackson County Board of County Commissioners voted to select Waste Pro as the county27s solid waste collection contractor after a qualifications review and ranking process completed by the commissioners.
Commissioners said all proposals were reviewed by the five-member selection group (the commissioners themselves) and that both Waste Management and Waste Pro presented capable options. "I've been a customer of Waste Pro for a long time. I've been very happy with their service," one commissioner said during the discussion, while another said Waste Management had been a satisfactory vendor as well. The ranking process resulted in Waste Pro as the consensus selection and a motion to award the service to Waste Pro passed at the meeting.
No final contract was executed at the meeting; staff will move into contract negotiations with Waste Pro. A staff member explained the process will now advance to formal contract talks and that the county is not automatically committing to all vendor terms shown in proposals without negotiation. The chair called for the vote after a motion and a second and commissioners voted to award the contract to Waste Pro.
Commissioners reiterated that the procurement was a qualifications-based process rather than a straight low-bid award and promised a negotiated contract that would include performance expectations. Commissioner Crutchfield said he personally ranked Waste Management highest, but accepted the commission27s consensus. The board instructed staff to proceed with contract development and to return for required approvals as negotiations conclude.
