County manager outlines station groundbreaking, probation programs and Vaudel Road intersection update

She noted the week of July 21 is National Probation Week and praised the county probation office, saying the department is preparing programs aimed at reducing recidivism and supporting re‑employment for people on misdemeanor probation. Dukes also reported ongoing conversations between the county’s engineering and utilities departments and Moody Air Force Base under an intergovernmental service agreement to assist with restoring storm‑damaged property at Grassy Pond.
Public works project manager McLeod updated the commission that the Vaudel Road intersection improvement project is approximately 95% complete: water and sewer relocations are complete and flowing, curb and gutter is boxed out, and pavement work remains. He said the contractor Reams & Son is on site and the county remains on target to open the intersection by Aug. 2.
These items were updates rather than action items; commissioners took no votes on the announcements. Staff did not release construction budgets or specific procurement timelines at the meeting.
