Sequim officials report progress on comprehensive plan update; state Commerce grant covers consulting work

Carla Bowden, the consultant leading Sequim’s comprehensive plan update, told the city council the Planning Commission has reviewed several chapters and that staff expects review of transportation, parks/open space and climate/resiliency chapters through the summer. Bowden said the city delivered all Commerce grant deliverables on time and received full reimbursement totaling $325,000 to support the comprehensive plan and development regulations update. She said the city solicited private property comprehensive-plan amendment applications in June and received 11 proposals that will be processed through the city’s amendment docket. Bowden also said Leland Consulting has been contracted to prepare a land capacity analysis and a housing and economic market study; project leads Andrew Oliver and Jennifer Suetsch will visit Sequim in about two weeks for a joint Planning Commission–City Council meeting to gather local input and share preliminary analysis. Councilors confirmed their retreat work-plan discussion had been shared with the consultant and expressed interest in the joint session; Bowden said she will return next month with another status update.
