Safe Harbor requests smoker for kitchen; committee says submit standardized application

Safe Harbor representatives told the Houston County Opioid Settlement Advisory Committee they would like to buy a smoker for the facility's kitchen to expand meal options for residents and guests, and the committee advised Safe Harbor to complete the standardized application for formal consideration. "We're looking to just have a a little more, variety in our food presentation. So we're thinking that we have a smoker in the back behind the new kitchen," a Safe Harbor representative said. The representative described the purchase as a small item to improve meal quality; an approximate cost cited in the meeting was about $800. Committee members reviewed Exhibit E eligibility and Schedule B, Part B items, noting that some social or programmatic items could qualify. One committee member said, "If you look at the, schedule b, part b, 1 items like 5, 6, and 12, there's, quite a few, mentions of social, you know, social activities. So I kinda feel like there's a chance that they'll fit into the..." The committee asked Safe Harbor to complete the state-recommended application and return it to the mayor's office or the committee. Members said the application will allow staff to confirm Exhibit E compliance, require a budget and receipts, and determine whether the item can be funded via the settlement dollars or must be funded through another source. No funding decision was made at the meeting; committee members said any approval would require review by the county attorney and then the County Commission. Next steps: Safe Harbor will complete the standardized application and provide cost estimates and receipts; the committee will review and forward a recommendation to the County Commission after attorney review.
