Commissioners formally designate Quail Ridge Road East to aid 911 addressing

Wichita County Commissioners on Tuesday voted unanimously to designate the segment of Quail Ridge Road from the Archer County line north to the Old State Road intersection as Quail Ridge Road E.

The hearing and vote aim to resolve mapping inconsistencies that had left 9‑1‑1 and other systems without a formal, county‑approved name for that portion of the roadway. County staff said Texas Department of Transportation maps show the road name in various forms, and 9‑1‑1 requested a formal designation so addresses and emergency response records will be consistent.

Commissioner Peachall explained 9‑1‑1 prefers the east/west nomenclature with a center portion in Archer County remaining Quail Ridge Road. During discussion, commissioners asked clarifying questions about whether the suffix should be the single letter "E" or the word "East" in databases; the motion as made designates the suffix as "E" for signage and database consistency. Commissioners noted the importance of using consistent abbreviations in addressing records so the name imports consistently into multiple databases used for addressing and elections.

The motion to adopt the designation passed 5‑0. County staff said the change will be applied to county addressing and shared with 9‑1‑1 and TxDOT records.
