Arts board to launch public data visualization; Power BI training under way

At its July meeting, the Wisconsin Arts Board External Relations Committee was told staff have acquired Power BI and are training to build a public-facing data visualization using the board's 2024 grant data and refreshed one-pagers.
Vivian, a staff member leading the work, announced: "We did finally get Power BI just last week." She said she is completing Power BI training modules with support from Dale, Caitlin and Karen, and that Dale is funneling and preparing the underlying data. The goal is to have a working prototype for internal review before the September board meeting and a public-facing visualization thereafter.
Committee members discussed capacity and sustainability. Chella, the committee chair, and others asked who would be trained to maintain and update the tool so it is not dependent on a single staff member. Vivian said the immediate plan is for her to lead the build with support from Dale and other staff; Caitlin said she is willing to complete training as schedules allow. Members agreed the September meeting would be an appropriate time to review a prototype and provide a user-experience wish list for future refinements.
The committee framed the work as building on updated one-pagers (the last set dated 2017) and as an effort to make grant impact and data more accessible and user-friendly for advocates, local partners and the public. No formal action was taken; the item was discussed as a deliverable the committee can review in September.
