Interim engineer Brandon Burmeister told the board the CHBP bundle includes multiple counties and city projects, with regional groupings of roughly 32 bridges across about 15 bundles; Pottawattamie County is partnered in a bundle led by Guthrie County for one local bridge. Burmeister said the county’s application would support pursuit of grant funding for bridge replacement work and that Guthrie County would serve as the bundle lead.
Supervisors moved and seconded the cooperative agreement and resolution and approved both items; the resolution (39-2025) passed on roll call with all supervisors voting aye. Burmeister noted his familiarity and working relationship with the Guthrie County engineer and that Guthrie County would lead the bundle application.
Why it matters: the CHBP grant is a competitive federal/state bridge-replacement program; being part of a bundle can improve competitiveness and bring grant dollars to replace aging local bridges with low traffic counts but structural needs.
Action taken: the board authorized the county to join the cooperative agreement and approved a resolution supporting the joint CHBP grant application; staff will proceed with the bundled application process.
