Commission awards five‑year debris removal contract to DRC, advances debris monitoring RFP process

Jackson County commissioners voted to award a five‑year contract for debris removal and disposal services to DRC and to solicit proposals for debris monitoring services.

Staff said two firms submitted proposals for debris removal; DRC’s proposal met county contract terms while another bidder requested contract modifications that county attorneys would not accept. After staff review and legal review, the commission moved to award the five‑year contract to DRC and to continue efforts to secure additional monitoring and contractor options.

Separately, staff asked the board to authorize release of an RFP for debris monitoring services and to approve a ranking committee to evaluate responses. Commissioners approved the RFP and the recommended ranking committee, which included county staff and commissioners as proposed by the administrator.

Commission staff said they expect to finalize contracts and return to the commission at the next meeting with documentation. If additional vendors remain interested, county staff said a follow‑up ranking and negotiation with alternate vendors will be possible to ensure adequate capacity for future storm responses.

The commission approved the award to DRC by vote and accepted the monitoring RFP and ranking committee recommendations.
