Kaneland CUSD 302 administration presented a post-referendum communications plan and a proposed committee structure to guide design and community input for referendum projects.
Communications Director Mister Chavez described the pre-referendum outreach that supported passage and proposed a post-referendum strategy that centers on transparency and sustained engagement. Planned elements include a dedicated project website with detailed project and financial information; monthly visual progress updates (photos and video); targeted social-media outreach; press releases at major milestones; town halls and community forums; feedback forms and surveys; and regular updates tailored for different audiences.
Board members and staff emphasized that financial transparency will be central. Suggestions included posting high-level budget "buckets" for major project groups (for example, planning, preordering, and site-specific budgets), showing when bond proceeds are received and how funds are spent, and associating visual progress updates with approximate costs to illustrate how tax dollars are used.
Administration also described a committee structure for planning and design. A steering committee (administration, construction manager and architect) will oversee the work; user-advisory working teams (academic core areas, physical education and athletics, CTE, science labs, maintenance, transportation and other stakeholders) will provide content-specific input. The district will solicit volunteers via a community form in June and intends to schedule meetings and site visits during an intense 6'to—7-month planning phase followed by as-needed meetings during construction.
No board action was required at the meeting; staff said they would return with committee rosters, a town-hall schedule and a project website timeline. Board members suggested celebrating milestones with community events and ensuring before-and-after visual documentation for transparency.
