Pine Mountain Regional Library gets $5,000 boost; third Meriwether branch planned in Luthersville

The Pine Mountain Regional Library System requested and received a $5,000 increase to its 2025–26 county allocation during the June 24 Meriwether County meeting. Library director Cynthia Kelby told commissioners the additional funding is needed to cover rising health-insurance premiums and an increase to employer retirement contributions for two full-time Manchester library staffers.
Kelby also told the board the system plans to open a third Meriwether County branch in Luthersville likely in late summer; she said the library system recorded about 10,000 visits and 12,000 item checkouts at the two existing libraries through the first three quarters of the year and that Wi-Fi usage was high.
A commissioner moved to approve the $5,000 increase and authorized the chair or vice chair to sign the required documents; the motion passed by voice vote.
