Streets and parks report: pothole repairs, community center progress and Harbor Point drainage bid
Summary
City staff reported 300 linear feet of asphalt repairs, 2,147 potholes filled, community center window/door installation under way, and that Harbor Point drainage phase has an engineering estimate around $200,000; staff said drainage must be fixed before additional roadwork.
A streets and parks update presented at the June 24 Gun Barrel City Council meeting listed maintenance accomplishments and ongoing projects and identified drainage work as a precondition to further Harbor Point road repairs.
Janet (city staff) summarized March–May activity for the street division: about 300 linear feet of asphalt repair, 259 feet of culvert work, 315 linear feet of ditch maintenance and 2,147 potholes filled. The parks division reported increased use of ball fields and recent additions such as new sand and nets for the volleyball court and added paint lines to expand pickleball play.
On the community center, staff said the building has been covered and that window and door installation had begun; staff promised a social‑media update within 24 hours. Staff also reported an auction of surplus city items had closed and items were being picked up.
When asked whether Harbor Point road repairs were complete, staff said the project will occur in three phases and drainage must be fixed before phase two. The engineer’s estimate for needed drainage work returned at about $200,000, prompting staff to solicit additional bids and “get creative” on funding. Staff said one bid has been received and they await a second.
Councilmembers thanked staff for park maintenance and noted strong community use of fields and courts. Staff said drainage work at the walking trail will precede trail improvements and that reclaimed asphalt will be used for trail surfacing once drainage is corrected.
