Board approves amendment to Little Eagle Creek study to support floodplain remapping

The Hamilton County Board of Drainage approved an amendment June 30 to work on Little Eagle Creek tied to a master watershed study and subsequent floodplain remapping.
Staff described the project as follow-up hydraulic and surveying work that will update FEMA floodplain limits along the stretch of Little Eagle Creek studied in a 2015 master watershed plan. The county consultant Christopher Burke performed additional mapping and the amendment funds work already begun to produce a more detailed hydraulic analysis and survey data, staff said.
Board members asked who would pay for the additional work; staff said the watershed is funding the contract amendment. Staff explained FEMA and DNR used coarser base maps for initial mapping and that more detailed county surveys typically produce revised floodplain limits.
The board approved the amendment by voice vote. Staff said the resulting floodplain revisions will be submitted to state and federal mapping authorities and, if accepted, published as revised floodplain maps.
