Peoria County awarded additional $41,500 from IHDA Strong Communities program for demolitions

Peoria County accepted an additional $41,500 in funding from the Illinois Housing Development Authority’s Strong Communities program to demolish three additional abandoned or unsafe residential properties.
Andrew, a county staff member presenting the resolution, said Peoria County was initially awarded $239,000 in November 2023 for demolition of abandoned residential properties under the IHDA program. In March, IHDA made additional funds available after other communities did not expend their full allotments; because Peoria had expended its original award, the county received an extra $41,500. The grant award includes 10% for administrative and direct costs.
The resolution approved by the board authorizes the county administrator to execute all grant‑related documents on behalf of Peoria County. Board members praised staff work that led to the additional allocation; Terry noted the county’s track record of executing awarded funds. Staff also acknowledged contributions from Taylor Armbruster, county legal assistance from Jenny and Mike from the state's attorney’s office, and others who supported recent demolition court work.
The board voted unanimously to approve the resolution.
