Granite County commissioners approved a contractor change order for motion-sensor and LED lighting in courthouse areas, accepted a pay application for work completed, and heard a detailed construction update on the courthouse elevator installation.
Brooke, the project superintendent, told the commission that crews finished reworking the elevator shaft, mounted steel plates, ran conduit for the mechanical room and prepared for a crane lift that could require a temporary lane closure. Brooke said Otis (the elevator subcontractor) will begin major lifts in about two weeks and that crews are building temporary support structures to allow assembly of elevator components inside the shaft.
Commissioners approved a change order to install motion-detector switches and LED fixtures in restrooms and select public areas; a motion to accept the change order was seconded and approved by voice vote. The commissioners also approved a pay application for the contractor for the period cited, with the meeting record showing a payment amount of $49,923.69 for the identified pay period.
Project staff said the elevator installation will require a crane and short-term traffic management; they will notify neighbors and coordinate parking and safety during the lift. Officials also discussed door swings, code concerns for stairway openings and temporary construction platforms being replaced by the actual elevator car for final assembly.
No additional long-term budget decisions were made at the meeting beyond the accepted pay application and approved change order; staff will continue to manage submittals, RFIs and coordination with the elevator vendor and subcontractors and will return with further change orders if needed.
