Committee approves Windows 11 upgrade; vendor quotes $360 per device blended labor

The Germantown General Government & Finance Committee voted unanimously to approve a Windows 11 upgrade project not to exceed $79,026 and forwarded the expenditure to the Village Board for final consideration.

Matthew, the village finance director, provided the committee with vendor responses from Capital Data explaining that a blended labor rate of $360 per device would cover pre‑staging, profile transfers and decommissioning of devices that are not standardized. Matthew said Capital Data also noted Microsoft offers extended security updates (ESU) for Windows 10, but those updates provide security patches only and are intended as a temporary fix for legacy applications.

Trustee Kaminski said the committee had “really beaten this horse to death over the past two months” and expressed satisfaction with the vendor information provided. Trustee Jan Miller sought and received clarification that the blended rate is $360 per device and that the charge is a one‑time installation cost.

Committee members and staff noted the village’s devices are not standardized and that upgrades can encounter legacy‑software issues; Capital Data’s fees include wiping and decommissioning old units when replacements are required. The committee moved, seconded and approved the project; the chair said the Village Board would see the item on its agenda that evening.
