Committee approves conditional use for second mausoleum building at cemetery

The DuPage County Development Committee on June 17 approved a zoning hearing officer's recommendation to allow a cemetery in a single-family zoning district to construct a second mausoleum building as a conditional use.

Staff explained that cemeteries are a conditional use in single-family zoning districts and the petition requested approval to add a second mausoleum building on the property. A committee member said the request was somewhat unusual but that a mausoleum is a building like any other and therefore falls under conditional-use procedures.

The committee moved and seconded approval; the motion carried with no recorded opposition. The committee did not attach additional conditions or direct further study.
