Orting — The Orting City Council held a public hearing Wednesday and adopted the city’s six-year Transportation Improvement Plan (TIP) for 2026–2031 after staff summarized planned projects and funding assumptions.
Scott Larson, briefing the hearing, said the TIP is a short-range planning document that must be consistent with the city’s comprehensive plan. "A lot of these are projects that have been here for a little bit," Larson said, listing the Foothills Veil realignment and safety enhancements, Kansas reconstruction, the evacuation bridge (ongoing), a future bridge phase, and the White Hawk Boulevard extension among projects on the plan.
Larson said the TIP also budgets for annual maintenance programs such as ADA updates and a pavement-management program; staff also included proposed streetlight conversions and work under the Safe Streets for All plan.
Councilmember Hogan noted the July 1 deadline for city adoption and moved to approve the TIP; Councilmember Moore seconded and the council approved the plan on a voice vote.
Why it matters: The TIP programs near-term capital work and funding for the city’s transportation network and ties directly to the comprehensive plan and state review calendars. Adoption starts the next phase of project delivery and allows staff to pursue state or other funding consistent with the schedule.
