CCPS reports major drop in state reporting errors after PowerSchool data overhaul

Caroline County Public Schools told the school board on June 11 that after a year of targeted training and process changes its state reporting errors had fallen sharply, from roughly 800 last year to about 40 this year.

Margaret Bridal, data systems management coordinator, said the division launched a “data transformation” that created data champions across schools, instituted registrar and administrative workshops, implemented two‑to‑three person reviews, and added PowerSchool University and other professional‑learning supports. Bridal said the team also added a PowerSchool help‑ticketing system and a new onboarding process in collaboration with PageTalker and AR staff.

Bridal told the board that errors often come from small omissions—missing checkboxes or teacher records—and that the division now compares tables from different sources, performs audits and workshops, and uses multi‑person review to catch issues early. She credited advice from Board member Dr. Joanda Rollins Fells about the dangers of relying on a single report to populate another.

The presenter listed next steps: continued professional learning (PowerSchool University train‑the‑trainer), division‑wide audits of user roles and courses, establishing reasonable due‑date schedules, and continued collaboration with other divisions.

Board members praised the reduction in errors and encouraged continued training and monthly reporting on progress.
