Mason County commissioners appoint Brittany Pearson as interim treasurer

The Mason County Board of Commissioners on June 10 voted to appoint Brittany Pearson to serve as Mason County treasurer until the next general election, effective July 1, 2025.

The appointment followed a brief presentation and family recognition in the commissioners’ chambers. A commissioner moved to approve “the resolution appointing Brittany Pearson to serve as Mason County treasurer until the next general election effective 07/01/2025,” and the motion passed on a voice vote after the chair called for the question.

The commissioners and the appointee spoke about continuity in the office and praised outgoing staff. One commissioner said having “somebody knowledgeable makes the biggest difference” in the treasurer’s office because the role handles large public investments that affect the county and local school districts. Pearson thanked county staff and family members who attended the meeting and said she was “very excited. Very proud.”

Commissioners also thanked Lisa, the outgoing treasurer, for her years of service and mentorship to the office’s staff. No formal transition timeline beyond the July 1 effective date was detailed during the meeting.

The appointment was processed separately from the broader action agenda after commissioners pulled the item for discussion and a separate vote. The county clerk recorded the motion as passed; no roll-call tally was taken in the transcript, and the vote was recorded as a voice vote.

The board did not add any additional conditions to the appointment at the meeting nor specify whether the appointee will run in the next general election.

The county plans to introduce the new treasurer to the public on or after July 1, according to remarks made during the meeting.
