Bryan County approves Safe Streets for All grant application, commits $60,000 local match

Bryan County commissioners voted to authorize submission of a $300,000 Safe Streets for All (SS4A) grant application to develop a Vision Zero‑style action plan aimed at reducing roadway fatalities and serious injuries across the county and partner cities.

Staff said the requested grant total of $300,000 reflects consultant estimates for producing an actionable plan and that a 20% local match ($60,000) is required. The proposed match would be split among the applicants: Bryan County would provide 56.5 percent of the match, Richmond Hill 35 percent and Pembroke 8.5 percent. The resolution names Bryan County as the lead applicant and authorizes the county to provide the match if either city declines or cannot secure the funding.

Pembroke had already provided a signed resolution of support and Richmond Hill was working through its approval steps, staff told the board; staff said Richmond Hill expected approval by the end of the month but that the city’s resolution was not required for the county to submit. Commissioners asked whether the cost would change if a city did not participate; staff said consultant estimates suggested the project cost would not materially fall because the scope of work remains the same.

The board approved the resolution authorizing the grant application and committing the county’s share of the match. If awarded, the grant would fund the development of a countywide Vision Zero action plan with participating municipalities.
