Winnsboro library reports sharp early increase in summer reading program participation

Library staff told the Winnsboro City Council that the city’s summer reading program has seen a large early increase in participation, with staff expecting to surpass last year’s totals.
Manuel Pacias, a library staff member, told council that in about a week and a half the library had recorded attendance of 312 patrons across five events including the farmers market table, a scavenger hunt information table and movie night. Pacias compared those early figures to last year’s totals—824 people across the whole program—and said the program is on track to surpass last year’s numbers.
Pacias provided more metrics: reading challenge sign-ups were 98 so far this year compared with 152 total last year; library card sign-ups were at about 25% of last year’s total; and items checked out were at about 20% of last year’s total. He thanked the “Winnsboro community” for increased engagement and said the library has become “a much more active and engaging place.”
Council members responded with brief praise and no further staff questions. The report appeared in the consent/staff reports portion of the agenda and did not require council action.
