New Patrick County library manager outlines summer programs, thanks board for 3% staff pay increase

Summer Okuyama, the new branch manager at the Patrick County Library, introduced herself during the public comment period and invited supervisors and residents to tour the facility.
Okuyama thanked the board for the 3% salary increase approved in the county budget for library staff and described available services: free public access to a copier, scanner and fax; 24-hour Wi-Fi; six public computers; reference and homework help; and programming including children’s weekly activities, a teen summer program on Thursdays at 2 p.m., adult reading cataloging with prizes, three yoga classes, walking clubs, craft groups and book clubs. She also noted the county’s bookmobile — referenced in the meeting as the “Patrick County bookmobile” — serves outlying areas biweekly and that Miss Gail, the bookmobile librarian, coordinates that service.
Okuyama thanked Rebecca Adcock, identified in the meeting as Patrick County Library chair, for accompanying her to the meeting. Her remarks were delivered as public comment; no board action was taken in response during the meeting.
