The Elyria Finance Committee on Monday approved amendments to the 2025 permanent appropriations to record grant funds and other small adjustments tied to Ely Square improvements and to note potential funding steps for the VIA transportation contribution.
Director Pawleski explained two appropriations: $3,995 in the general fund Parks & Recreation operating and maintenance budget and $5,900 in the Findlay Trust Fund operating and maintenance budget; both are NOPEC grant monies for Ely Square improvements and needed to be appropriated. The director said these items would be reimbursed when grant funds were received.
The director also noted the earlier discussion about the VIA contribution and that $125,000 could be moved or shown as a miscellaneous general government line item if needed; staff said the item would either appear as an addition in miscellaneous general government or be balanced by a corresponding reduction elsewhere in the budget.
The committee voted to amend the permanent appropriations as presented; the ordinance carried by voice vote. The director reminded the group that the 2026 tax budget is due to the Lorain County budget commission on July 17 and recommended addressing the tax budget at the June 30 strategic planning meeting.
