Kitsap Regional Library reports 2.6 million checkouts, expanded hours and 55,000 program attendees in 2024

Jeanne Allen, director of strategy and communications, presented the Kitsap Regional Library annual report at the May 27 meeting of the Kitsap Regional Library Board of Trustees, saying, “Libraries remain strong.”
Allen told trustees the system served more than 107,000 Kitsap households and had more than 86,000 cardholders in 2024. Cardholders checked out or renewed more than 2,600,000 items across formats, and the system offered nearly 3,000 classes and events that drew about 55,000 children, teens and adults. The library’s 131 public computers logged about 59,000 hours of use, and monthly mobile services reached more than 200 homes, health-care centers and group facilities.
Allen highlighted service and access improvements in 2024: increased and more consistent branch hours including the return of Sunday service, the start of a language access plan, team field trips for students, and the continuation of core programs such as summer learning and the community learning internship. She also noted system milestones: the renaming of the Doctor Martin Luther King Jr. Library, Little Boston’s 50th anniversary and Port Orchard’s centennial celebrations.
Library Director Jason and trustees praised the report and noted the year’s emphasis on workforce development, staff recognition and community engagement. Summer reading starts June 1 and will be a major focus for outreach and programming this summer.
