AUBURN, June 3 — The Auburn City Council voted to amend the city code and approve a rate increase for solid-waste collection services that will take effect Oct. 1, 2025, when the city’s fiscal year begins.
Mayor Ron Anders said the city’s solid-waste program is run as an enterprise fund that should cover its own costs but currently does not, requiring transfers from the general fund. “Basically, this is an enterprise fund that should be supporting the work that is done. And because of the cost, it is not currently doing that,” Anders said.
The council held multiple work sessions and delayed the decision for over a month so the public could review the rate options and impacts, Anders said. The council approved the ordinance amending the city code; the meeting record supplied by the mayor did not include a mover, seconder, or roll-call vote tally.
