Jackson County commissioners approved purchase of a software package from SoftBank Software Solutions for the Solid Waste Department to integrate a new camera system on garbage trucks and to collect operational data.
County staff said the camera hardware will integrate with the SoftBank software so the department can track required data points from routes. The commission voted to approve the software purchase after staff presentation; no dollar amount was included in the meeting discussion.
Commissioners also approved revised job descriptions for Solid Waste Driver 1, Driver 2 and Equipment Operator. The revisions remove the requirement that applicants hold a GED or high-school diploma and permit applicants without those credentials to be considered if they possess a CDF. Staff said they reviewed safety considerations tied to the new on-truck camera/system integration and determined the changes pose no conflict with existing safety policies.
The commission approved the software purchase and the three job-description updates by voice vote; staff will implement the revised hiring standards and proceed with the software installation plan.
