Cowlitz County readies request for jail medical services as current provider seeks exit

Brynn Fox, director of corrections, told commissioners the request for proposals for the jail medical contract is on the agenda for the next meeting after NaphCare signaled it intends to withdraw from Washington or to bid with a significant price increase. Fox said NaphCare “may still bid on it, but we'll see.”
Fox reported the company’s contract end date in September and said she expects at least two firms are likely to submit proposals. She described recent outreach at the WASPC (Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs) conference and said two companies are entering the Washington market and appear interested. Fox warned commissioners that the bids are unlikely to be lower than the county’s existing contract.
No contract award was made at the meeting; the RFP and any subsequent bid evaluation will be considered by the board at a future public agenda item.
