Calvin, a Peoria County facilities staff member, told the committee the county has converted about 185 jail cells to the new configuration and is finalizing the remaining count before matching scope to available funding.
The report covered several concurrent projects. Calvin said work is underway on the Ring Road project and a probation office remodel at the courthouse. He said the Main Street Staffs Plaza foundation work, under CORE, was to start last week but was delayed by migratory birds; he said the Illinois Department of Natural Resources is scheduled to remove the birds the next day. "We do have an issue with the migratory birds, that should be taken care of tomorrow. We do have DNR coming in to remove that bird," Calvin said.
Calvin also reported progress on the courthouse exterior envelope and said construction crews began work earlier this month on spaces that include the circuit clerk, the treasurer's office, the order of protection office, and the family justice center. He said North Station is complete, and that drawings for the Salt Dome at Lake Road remain in coordination; the Fuel Island project is in progress.
Committee members asked no substantive follow-up questions during the update. No formal action was taken; the item was presented as an informational report.
The facilities update appeared during the committee's informational items and did not include motions or votes. Staff indicated further details on remaining jail conversions and funding availability will be provided as they finalize counts.
