Board approves expulsions for multiple students, assigns off-campus virtual learning
Summary
The Marion County School Board voted unanimously to expel several students and assign them to off-campus virtual learning for the remainder of 2024–25 and the entire 2025–26 school year.
The Marion County School Board on May 27 approved expulsion recommendations for multiple students and assigned them to off-campus virtual learning placements.
Superintendent Diane Gullett asked the board to approve expulsions for a set of students identified by their case numbers. The board approved expulsions (motions made and seconded during the meeting) for students listed as JD25-278E, JD25-288, JD25-289, JD25-290 and JD25-293, with the recommendation that they be placed in off-campus virtual learning for the remainder of the 2024–25 school year and the entire 2025–26 school year. The vote on those expulsions was 5-0.
Later in the meeting the board also approved expulsions for an additional group of students (JD25-280E, JD25-281, JD25-282, JD25-285) under similar terms; that motion likewise passed 5-0.
Chair Lori Conrad confirmed the board had received the alternative-placement list for students through May 8, 2025, and the clerk reported no parents had submitted timely requests to speak on their child’s disciplinary matters. Board members followed standard procedure for student-discipline votes, noting that the board’s role is to act on the superintendent’s recommendations.
