Trustees approve district performance plan; work-based learning, math and ELA remain core goals

The Churchill County School District Board of Trustees voted to approve the district performance plan (DPP), a planning document that aligns school performance plans and district goals for academic and career pathway work.

Assistant Superintendent Stacy Cooper described the DPP as a “living document” that the district will revisit at least four times a year and update as new data arrive. “This district performance plan is due in May… After our vote this evening, I'll be able to submit this on behalf of Churchill County School District to the State Department of Education,” Cooper said, adding that the plan is aligned with board-established goals from a prior workshop.

Cooper said the plan carries three district-wide themes into the coming year: Work Based Learning/career pathways, mathematics, and English language arts (ELA). She told trustees the goals were rolled over from 2024–25 because the district has not yet achieved the growth the board set out to reach.

Trustees asked specific questions about implementation and measurement. Cooper explained that some academic goals require multi-year implementation to show substantial change and that baseline and period-to-period data will be used to measure progress. Trustee Whitaker raised questions about family engagement and translation services for English learners; Cooper said the district has started events with translation and would continue to build family outreach and translation capacity.

The board approved the district performance plan unanimously and directed staff to maintain the plan in the state’s Plan for Learning platform and to publish evidence such as Title I parent engagement and Read by Grade 3 materials as required by state processes.

The approved document also included a Read by Grade 3 addendum and instructions that district staff will upload Title I evidence and other documentation to the state platform.
