Summary
The board unanimously approved the FY26–30 VDOT secondary six‑year plan, including FY26 funding of telefees and district grant funds and a priority list that features Stevens Road, Hunter’s Green, and several unpaved projects; the plan was approved after a public hearing with no speakers.
The Botetourt County Board of Supervisors approved the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) fiscal year 2026–2030 secondary roads six‑year plan and the FY26 priority list during the May 20 meeting.
Mister Blevins, VDOT’s presenter, told the board the fiscal‑year 2026 telefees allocation is $70,093 and district grant unpaved funds for FY26 total $546,027. Blevins noted district grant unpaved funds may only be used to pave existing VDOT roadways that carry at least 50 vehicles per day.
Key funded priorities include Stevens Road and Hunter’s Green (the latter noted as funded and likely to be removed from the active priority list once complete). The board’s priority list for successive years includes Ballpark Road, Mountain Valley Road, Blamingtown Road, Roy Road, Old Hollow Road, Red Bud Lane and Haymaker Town Road. Potential projects discussed for later years included Bowling Springs Road (rough estimate $650,000), remaining segments of Fringer Trail (estimate $550,000) and Sugar Tree Hollow Road (longer, higher estimate due to length and narrow sections). Zion Hill Road was noted as a candidate with an approximate $550,000 estimate, 1.15 miles in length and about 40 vehicles per day.
Blevins said the district’s funding projections change as unpaved‑road mileage falls, which in turn affects future district grant amounts. The county opened a public hearing on the six‑year plan; seeing no public speakers, the board closed the hearing and voted to approve the plan.
“Would anyone like to speak on the proposed projects for the 6 year plan? Seeing no one, I will close the public hearing,” the chair said before the unanimous vote. The plan will proceed with the FY26 programming and VDOT will advance design and construction per the priorities and available funds.
